No dogs left in hot cars here… on Quinpool Road, you can take your pooch shopping with you!
Quinpool Road says “Paws here, our street is doggone friendly”.
Walk down Quinpool Road today, and you may notice a few more tails wagging at your bank, your hair salon, your pharmacy, your favourite sport shop, the hardware store, or even your accountant’s office! While many businesses in the Quinpool district have been dog-friendly for awhile, this new Paws Here on Quinpool campaign has rallied many more spots to allow dogs to accompany their people into shops and services along the street. At least forty of Quinpool Road’s shops and services invite folks and their dogs into their shops, while another fifteen accommodate outdoor visits with water bowls, leash tethers, and even little perks for dog owners.
“The initiative is unique to the region, and likely far beyond that.” Says Larry Burke, whose Quinpool based (dog-friendly) marketing firm, Burke & Burke, created the campaign. Karla Nicholson, the Quinpool Road Association’s Executive Director, (and dog owner), added, “This really shows how our members can work together to create something that’s good for business, good for dog lovers, and of course, great news for our furry friends.”
The Paws Here program, funded through the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association’s membership levy and the generous sponsorship of Quinpool Road’s Halifax Veterinary Hospital, hopes to keep dogs out of hot cars, and into the shops and services who happily welcome them along the street.
Visitors to Quinpool Road are urged to look for Paws Here window decals, which indicate Dogs Welcome Inside, or Outside, depending on the location. Each participating business has posters which list all participants, and the first few doggies who visit could receive some pooch-appropriate swag. Quinpool visitors are encouraged to post their pooch pictures to social media using the hashtag #pawshereonquinpoolBack to Home Page
